Why is the first photo slower than the rest?
The background removal is done by a model running on a graphics card in the cloud. To save money it is switched off when nobody is using it.
This is not a chatbot like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot. It is a small image model, a neural network trained only to separate a subject from its background, which is why it can do its job in a few seconds once it is loaded.
Your first photo has to wake it up and load the model into memory, which takes about 30 seconds. That is the galloping horse and the countdown you see.
Once loaded, the model stays in memory for about two minutes after the last photo. Any photo sent in that time skips the wake-up and comes back in a few seconds, so it is worth doing your photos one after another. If more than two minutes pass, the next photo wakes it up again.
Uploaded photos are kept on our server for 30 days so that any misuse of the tool can be investigated, then deleted. If you tell us a result was not right and tick the box, we keep the photo and result for quality control.
